作者は、George Edward Stanleyさんです。


　新しい担任の先生は、元スパイ？！

　元スパイを公言する・・・っていうものどうかと思いますが、
　そこはご愛嬌。

　クラスに起こる身近なミステリーに対して、

　探偵役の主人公は、Noelle（ノエル）さんとTodd（トッド）君たちが、

　知恵を絞って、本格的な科学的捜査を行います。

　そして、Mr.Merlin（マーリン）先生が、

　毎回、秘密の暗号文による効果的なヒントでリードしてくれる上に、

　先生の友人である現役の警察官であるDr.Smiley女史が

　○○○鑑定への協力もしてくれます。

難しくない英文なんだけど頭を使って問題を解いていく楽しさ。
このシリーズの魅力はそんなところにあると思います。

Noelleは三年生になり新しい先生を迎えます。もとスパイだったという先生、Mr.Merlinは暗号を生徒に教えてくれます。
探偵ごっこが大好きなNoelleは先生が大好きになりました。
ライバルのAmber　Leeが不思議な手紙をもらったとクラスで発表します。手がかりは封筒でした。
犯人は左ききか右ききかNoelleはAmber　Leeより先に犯人を割り出そうと懸命になります。
