同じような文章の繰り返しの中にも、内容は異なり、大好きな猫を捜し求める少年の姿が描かれています。鮮やかな絵から想像性が増しどんどんひきつけられていく本です。２歳になる娘も始めはあまり興味が無かったのに、ページをめくっていくごとに、楽しくなっていくようで集中して聞くようになっていきました。どのページにも猫？が描かれてはいますが、なかなか少年の猫は見つかりません。うちの娘も「どうしてこの猫じゃないんだろう？」と疑問を持ちながらページをめくり最後に少年の猫との再会！「うぁ~」と大喜びします。この本は日本語でもよくある感動を簡単な英語で表現してあり、子供にとっては日本語と英語の区別なく接する事が出来る！そんな絵本でした。

１歳の娘にはじめてかってあげた英語の本です。一人の男のが自分の猫を探しに出かけます。「Have you seen my cat?」と、あらゆる人種の人々に尋ねていきますが、それは他の猫科の動物・・・つまり、チーターやライオン、ヒョウだったり・・・・・・。なかなか自分の猫が見つからず、マダか、マダかの期待を裏切らない結末。同じフレーズの繰り返しで物語は展開していきますが、作者の色彩豊なコラージュは読者をあきさせません。特に約すこともなくそのままこの本を読んであげていますが、１歳の娘でも十分たのしんでいます。

This is a simple, but engaging book to help build the confidence of the beginner/elementary reader, who is taken on a search for a missing cat. Only four sentences (Have you seen my cat? / This is not my cat. / Where is my cat? / This is my cat.) are used (only nine words) in the 21 pages of this book, but these sentences are repeated over and over again so that the book ends up averaging 4-5 words per page.
