パッチワーク・エレファントのエルマーシリーズ、とにかく絵がよくて大好きです！カラフルで、動物たちの表情がとっても豊かで、楽しくなっちゃいます。著者のDavid McKeeさんは子供の心を持っているんだろうなあ、普通の大人にはこんな絵は描けないだろうだあ、といつも思います。といっても、昔流行ったヘタウマみたいな、大人が小賢しく狙った子供っぽい絵ではないのです。子供の持っている「生きてるだけで楽しい！」みたいなエネルギーが、絵からほとばしっているのです。ちなみに、エルマーはとってもカラフルですが、仲間の象も含めた他の動物たちは、自然の色です。

そんなシリーズの中でこの本の内容は、"Hello, Zebra.You're the stripest."、"Hello, Giraffe. No one is taller than you."と続いていく、よくある動物絵本です。同じ内容の絵本を買うなら、ぜひエルマーを！11ヶ月の娘、３才の息子の二人とも気に入って読んでいます。

ライオンのページが怖くて、泣き出すからこのページを破り捨てた・・というアメリカ人のコメントを見て、どんなものかと思って買ったら、娘（１５ヶ月）は、主人のライオンの”ワオー”という叫び声を聞くのが楽しみで、目を大きくしてそのページになると喜んでいる。色がすごくきれいで、目を楽しませてくれるし、動物の名前を教えるのに大変役に立ちました。

2歳の娘、ライオンが吼える場面が怖いみたいで、しばらくこの本を
いやがっていましたが、2,3ヶ月してから、また読んでみたら、成長
したせいか、怖くなかったようで、喜んで開くようになりました。
娘いわく「もう怖くない」そうです。
この本のお陰で、stripeとかspotという単語を覚えました。
絵もきれいだし、楽しく読める本だと思います。
