   作者であるレオーニは、アメリカで活躍した芸術家であり、アート・ディレクターとしても活躍をしていた。優れた仕事をしたきた彼が、ある日、孫たちをあやすため、手近にあった紙に、これもまた、手近にあった絵筆と絵の具で、即興のストーリーを紡ぎ出した。それが、本書である。
   青と黄色。単純な筆あとが、いくつもの場面を楽しく想像させる。そこには、不思議なリズムがあって、無理がない。あおくんと、きいろちゃんがうれしくて抱き合って、緑色になってしまう場面は、ほほえましく「仲良くする」とは、こういうものなんだとダイレクトに伝わってくる。
   そして、やはり豊かな色彩感覚には目を見張る。幼児向けではあるが、それだけにとどまらない力強さと、素朴さを兼ねあわせた絵本である。原題は『Little Blue and Little Yellow』。（たけだ 凛）

おかあさんが買い物に出かけ、あおくんは仲良しのきいろちゃんと遊んでいるうちに驚くことが起こってしまう。いっしょにいるのが楽しくて、くっついていた2人は、みどり色になってしまう。このまま家に帰っても色が違うから、当然「うちの子じゃない」と言われてしまう。2人の体から涙の粒があふれ、悲しくて体全部が涙になってしまうと、ようやく元通りの色にもどった。
抽象的な絵とストーリーのなかに、「あお+きいろ=みどり」といった色についての概念、哲学的なテーマなどが含まれており、子どもだけでなく、大人もいっしょに楽しむことができる。(か)

いまから20年近く前、母親になりたてだったころ、この本と
出合いました。
シンプルな構成と色使いに、迷わず買った本でした。もちろん
あおくんときいろちゃんに息子も夢中になり何十回読んであげたか
わからないほどです。いまでもソラで文を言えるほど。
シンプルな中にあたたかい「何か」が流れているのですね…
こどもはちゃんとした形になったものだけを理解するのでは
なく、抽象化された形の中にも物語を見出す力があるのですね。
親子でこの本のとりこになり、そしておもいっきりレオ・レオニの
作品にはまりました。我家の息子たちはレオ・レオニの世界から
「たいせつなもの」を学び取ってくれたように思います。

little blueとlittle yellowが仲良く抱き合って緑色になる、という色の現象をお話にするなんて本は他にありません。しかも愛を感じる本。お話も他と異なれば、絵も違います。もうこれはアートと呼ぶほうがふさわしいでしょう。動物も乗り物も出てきませんが、絵の具のパレットのような各ページは、キャラクター本などでは得られない子供の感性を養ってくれそうな気がします。うちの息子は1歳半ですが、十分楽しんでいます。

小さい頃読んでいた本です。親になってまた読みたくなって購入しました。
色だけでこんなに表現できるなんて凄いです。とても可愛くほのぼのとした絵本で気に入っています。子どもにも読んで聞かせ親子でお気に入りになれるといいなと思っています。
