英文法の本なのですが、「Communicative」の名前が表しているように、英語を読む人よりも、英語を「発信する」人の立場に立って書かれているのが特徴です。

ですから、一般的な英文法の本が、品詞別に編集されているものが多いのに対し、この本は、たとえば、「目的」を表す方法には「to 不定詞」と「so that 節」と何がある、という具合に、品詞の分類を横断して書かれています。

したがって、英作文などの際に非常に訳に立つ文法書であると言えます。

また、全体の構成も、「概念」からはじまって、「事実とそれに対する判断」から「感情や態度」へと順を追って複雑になっていくので、初級者が通読するのにも向いていると思います。

大学の英文法のテキストとして使っています。
この本の最大の特徴は各文法項目をを<formal>,
<informal>という視点から分類していることに
あると思います。

例えば、Hiという挨拶はアメリカ英語の
<informal>な形であるとか、Helloというのは
イギリス英語の<informal>な形式であるという
分類がなされています。このような分類は我々が

実際にコミュニケーションをする時大いに役立つ
ことでしょう。英語自体も非常に平易であり、
すぐに使える表現も豊富に掲載されています。
日本の伝統的な品詞による分類とは一味違った
文法書であると言えるでしょう。

　最高にタノシイーー。僕はこれが授業のテキストなんですが、なかなかいいですよ。わからない単語もほとんどありませんし、なにより発見が多い。
　基本的にはグラマティカルな内容です。しかし基礎的ながらも、会話に使える表現、口語から発音、イントネーションなどなど、とってもお役立ち。この夏、英語を読んでみるっていうのも・・・。
