ヒッチコックが映画化したことでおなじみの"Psycho"を，英語学習者向けに語彙を制限してretoldしたものです．
原作ではなく映画化されたものをベースに書き直されているようです．挿絵にも映画のシーンが使われています．
すごい恐いというわけではないですが，じんわりと恐さが伝わってきます．

事件の舞台となるモーテルの怪しさが良いです．アメリカの田舎にあるモーテルに泊まったことのある人なら実感できるはず．壁や家具が妙にぼろだったり．シャワーが錆びてたり．そんな感じを想像しながら読むと，恐さ倍増です．
語彙レベルは1200．総語数は約9600．SSSの難易度レベルは3.

映画を見たことがなかったのですが、映画が見たくなりました。

恋人と結婚するために会社のお金を横領してしまった女性。
車で何キロも走り、警官にも出会い、心身共に疲れ果て、あるモーテルに辿り着くのです。そこで病気の母を持つという男性に出会います。優しくしてもらって、その女性は自分のしたことの愚かさに気付き、次の日にお金を返そうと決意します。なのに、彼女に悲しい出来事が起ります。私にとっては衝撃の結末でした！！

語彙レベルは1200です。レベルは3なので読みやすいです。

ヒッチコックの名作の中でも面白い部類に入る物語でしょう。
映画で内容は十分に知っていますが、これだけ平易な英語でもその面白さを十分に伝えることが出来るってことに驚きます。

多読用に英語に親しもうという方にはお勧めです。
