前作の　No Second Chance よりはずっと
現実味のあるストーリーでした。
今回も突然、愛する人が目の前から消えてしまうのですが
人を愛することの大事さと切なさを教えてくれます。
登場人物がたくさんで頭の中の整理が大変ですが
それぞれ大事な役割があったと思います。
主人公グレースの夫ジャックの失踪とグレースが巻き込まれた
過去の事件の２つの謎解きが中心です。
ジャックのお姉さんが勤める弁護士事務所はマイロンファンへの
ちょっとしたサービスですね。
マイロンシリーズも復活してくれないかなぁ・・・

　Ｃobenの小説の魅力は、何と言っても複雑に仕掛けられた捻り、息も着かせぬ展開の早さ、そして丁寧な人間の描写力でしょう。その意味では、この作品内には彼の魅力が凝縮されています。ただ、「Tell No One」「Gone for Good」「No Second Chance」と読み進めてきて、前作で一つの進歩を見たなと思ったら、再び前に戻っているんです。つまり彼がストーリーを練り上げる上での核、アイデンチテイの摩り替えをこの小説でも試みているんですね。彼は余程気に入ってるらしく、次の「The Inocent」でも同じ手を使っています。でもアイデンチテイの摩り替えは、Cobenのオリジナルではないんです。古くは、Graham Greenがこの手を使っています。もうそろそろ、死者に摩り替わるって話は卒業して欲しいです。でもそんな一片の不満が残るにしても、Cobenの小説は面白い。ストーリー作りの上手さには、素直に驚かされます。それに、文章が上手い。雰囲気を盛り上げる表現力はピカイチでしょう。但し、彼の作品に共通して言えるのは、前面に躍り出て散々悪の限りを尽くす悪人は真の悪人ではなく、主人公に親身になって接する人物、或いは主人公に限りなく近い血縁者が本当の悪者だったりして、これもいつも同じパターンなので、ページ半ばも読み進めると最後が予想出来てしまいます。多分Cobenフアンは私と同じ不満を抱いているのではないでしょうか。だけど初めてCobenの小説を読むって方なら、充分サスペンスノベルの面白さを満喫出来ると思います。

コーベン氏お得意のスピード感のあるストーリー展開と幾重にも重なった複雑なプロットのおかげでページをめくる手が止まりません。
夫を救おうと奔走するヒロインにはぐっとこみ上げるものがあります。
ただ、彼の他の作品となんとなく、重なるような部分もありましたが、
最後まで楽しめました。
