この本の著者は、ロルファー（ロルフィングのプラクティショナー）である。したがって、ボディワークを知っている人の視点から、書かれている。多くの解剖学の本が、ただ筋肉や骨の形を掲載しているだけなのに対し、筋肉の流れといったものを描いてくれている。たとえば、機能的なライン、スパイラルライン、ラテラルラインなどである。これは、ボディワーカーだけでなく、体のことを知りたい多くの人にとっても、大変参考になることである。

筋肉や身体の動きや機能について問題意識の高い方には新しい視点を与えてくれる一冊になるでしょう。特に、人体の発生学にまで溯り、それぞれ別々に考えがちな身体の各器官を一つの受精卵から分裂した共通項を持つ派生機関であると考え、理論を展開しています。東洋医学にも一部通ずるところもあるのではないでしょうか？
一般的なの筋や関節とその機能についての知識や理論と実際の臨床現場におけるギャップを埋めてくれる様々な考え方を提供してくれます。また、非常に分かりやすい比喩を多用し、ともすれば非常に難解なものを平易に説明してくれているところも本書の魅力と言えます。本当に「次はどんな新しいことを教えてくれるのだろう？」と、つい読みすすめるごとにわくわくさせられ、知的好奇心を深く刺激される1冊です。
