マイロンが年老いた両親のいる実家に戻ると、大学時代の恋人、エミリーが突然ベンツで乗り付けてくる。彼女は、高校時代から大学時代を通してマイロンのバスケのライバルでもあったグレッグと結婚し男の子を一人産んでいた。しかし、その彼女から息子がファンコーニ貧血症という難病を患っていて、骨髄移植しか治療法がない事を知る。骨髄バンクには一人だけ型の一致しているドナーがいた。しかし、そのドナーがある日行方不明になる。手がかりのないまま、マイロンはそのドナーを探し始めるが、次第に謎が深まっていく。マイロンが実はこの一人息子ジェレミーの実の父親であることを知らされ、なんとしても助けようとする。そこで、スポーツ・エージェントのウインやエスペランザらとともに捜査を開始する。ハーラン・コーベンの作品の中で交わされる会話は無駄がなく洗練されていて、オシャレですらあると感じてしまうし、何より人物のキャラが面白く、全編軽快なリズムで読み通すことができるので、つい夜更かししてしまう。さて、ドナーにまつわる意外な真実とは？そして、ジェレミーは果たして助かるのか？最後まで息がつけない面白さ。そして、なんといってもやはり、他に勝るものが無いのは家族愛なのだと確信してしまうのです。うーむ。面白いですね

なんとマイロンに息子がいた！しかも彼は致命的な貧血症で、行方不明のドナー発見に全てがかかる、と始めから読者驚きの展開。
始めは当然面食らったマイロンが、生物学上の父親という自覚以上の感情に動かされていくのが読者の心も揺さぶる。というか、私は思いっきり揺さぶられました。

マイロンと老いてきた父さんの会話、最後のグレッグとの和解（？）、ジェレミーとの初めての父＆息子の会話、この辺り読者の心を鷲掴みです。このシリーズの人気はこういう感情の無理の無さと、表し方のうまさにある、と再確認しつつ味わえた１冊です。でもウィン、次はもっと活躍してね。

主人公のマイロンはスポーツエージェント。今回のお話は家族愛に
満ち満ちてます。中心は何組かの父親と息子の関係を描いてますが
他にも家族の形を問うようなケースを盛り込んでます。
推理小説としても話の筋はよく練ってあると思います。
主人公に息子がいた！・・で作者の思い切りの良さにビックリした私。

この息子とマイロンの関係がどうなるのか興味津々でしたが
結末はもう読んでからのお楽しみです。
私としては意外なでもこの作者らしい展開でした。
マイロンシリーズを読んでいる人には絶対にお勧めです。
