てゆーか（←読めばわかる）ウィンにも母親がいたんじゃん！な一冊。シリーズ４作目となる今回はウィンのゴルファーである従姉にまつわる事件です。ある意味ミスターパーフェクトであるウィンの調子が何処となく冴えません。君も感情のある人間だったのかウィン殿、と思える展開です。ウィンの従姉の息子が誘拐され、二十三年前に起きた全米オープンでのある出来事が関わっているのではないかという取っ掛かりで物語は進み、その事件に絡まるようにウィンの幼い頃の出来事についても語られていきます。ただ前作のマイロンに関する激しい展開からすれば少しおとなしめの印象を受けるかもしれませんが、そこのところはウィンの過去が覗けたという事で差し引きゼロにしてもいいかなーとは個人的に思います。前!!作と次作に挟まれたシリーズ中盤？の中休み的な作品や次作への橋渡し的作品と思って侮ってはなりません。影の(裏の？闇の？）ヒーロー、ウィンに関するお話なんですから読まないわけにはいきません。

今回のお話ではマイロンが１人で事件に立ち向かうって感じです。
いつもはアワワ・・・って言うときに影のように彼を助けてくれる
ウィンが頑として動いてくれない。そこで　Without Win You're hopeless
って事でエスペランサがお助けウーマンになってくれる。
なあーんだ。マイロンって一人じゃ何もできないの？って少し
ガッカリの巻でした。でもストーリー自体はいつも通りに意外な結末で
楽しめました。どの人も怪しかった。
マイロン君、早く心身ともに大人になってね・・・でした。

5.0 out of 5 stars Myron Bolitarシリーズの傑作。プロゴルファーを巡る過去の秘密, 2004/12/30
Myron Bolitarシリーズの第4作。彼がエージェントを務める一流女子プロゴルファーLinda Coldrenの息子が突然行方不明になる。折りしも、二流のプロゴルファーである彼女の夫がUSオープンで優勝に向かって突き進んでおり、息子は彼の優勝を妨害するために誘拐されたように思えた。Myronが息子の行方を探るうちに、彼はLindaたち一家及び彼の親友Winの家族の過去の秘密に近づいて行く。行方不明の人間を探すというCoben得意のパターンであるが、家族の暗い過去の問題が現代の事件につながるというパターンは、Jonathan KellermanのAlex Delawareシリーズを思い起こさせ、Cobenの他の作品に比べ、より深みが感じられる。いずれにしろ、テンポの速い展開、複雑なストーリーは、いかにもCobenらしく、Myron Bolitarシリーズの中では最高クラスに位置すると言ってよいだろう。英語は平易で読みやすい。
