このお話は小学校２年のときに、ある国語の教科書で扱われていたので、 覚えている人も多いかと思います。 私も大好きで、暗唱できるほど読んでいましたが、大人になって、原文を英語で読んでみたくて購入しました。 スイミーは、赤い色をした仲間たちとは違って、真っ黒、、、。

でもある日、その個性を活かして、大きな魚を勇敢にも追い払ったときには、拍手をおくりたいほどの感動です。 最近になって、このお話は、他の人とは異なる点に劣等感を抱くのではなく、それをプラスの方向に活かして、力強く社会で生きていくことのすばらしさを教えようとしていたんじゃないかと思うようになりました。

子どもにもぜひ読ませてやりたいです。

A Caldecott Honor recipient, SWIMMY by Leo Lionni is noteable for its beautiful illustrations using a lovely blend of painting, printing and collage. The story, too, is a winner: A resilient little black fish who uses his resources not only to regain his courage, but to help other little fish like himself. Instead of giving up and cowering in the dark, he thinks and thinks until he comes up with a startlingly effctive plan. I also found it in Japanese in my second grader`s kokugo primer. This English version might serve as a valuable resource for those who are studying English, especially youngsters.

日本語：　　とても　きれいな　イラスト-で　Swimmyが　アメリカの　Caldecott賞の　Honor賞を　まらいましたが、　ストリーも　とても　すてきです。　小さな、　一人ぼっちに　なった　Swimmy　が　すぐ　元気も　ようきも　出して　生きていきます。　　その　上に　友達の　ために、　おちこまずに、にげずに、　考えて、考えて、　びっくりほど、　オリジナル　アイデア　を　思いつきます。　英語を　なっらっている　方にも　日本語ばん　と　共に、　おすすめします。

とにかく、この作者の絵本が大好きです！
この本の対象者が、乳幼児~就学前児童といいますが、いやいや！
大人でもとっても楽しく読めますよ。これは子供の頃、小学校の出し物で
見た話です。懐かしく読んでみても、やっぱり楽しめました。
日本の文部省もちゃんといい本を選んでいるんですね。感心しました！
内容も可愛らしく、絵も可愛い！
文句ナシの絵本です。簡単な英語で、ここまで楽しませてくれる本は
なかなかありませんヨ！
