母鳥とはぐれてしまった小鳥ちゃんが見たことのない母鳥を探すという、一見波乱万丈の感動物語かと思いきや、これはまったくのコメディー。 出会うものすべてに"Are you my mother?"と尋ねる小鳥ちゃんのかわいらしさと、母鳥が見つからないことに悲しむどころかちょっとムカついてしまう、そんな小鳥ちゃのキャラクターがきらりと光るストーリーです。

繰り返しの部分を子供達(生徒達)と一緒に読んだりするのも楽しいです！

本の表紙に、前に友人にプレゼントされたＴｈｅ　Ｃａｔ　ｉｎ　ｔｈｅ　Ｈａｔの猫が描かれてあったので、２歳の娘が興味を示しました。

動物の出てくる絵本は好きですが、いつも長いものは途中で「おしまい！」とふたをしてしまうので、今回もどこまで読んでやれるやら…と思っていたら、最後まで時々笑いながら喜んで聞きました。そして、何と「もう一回！」。

きっと、いろんな動物や乗り物までを「あなたは僕のお母さん？」と聞いて、お母さんを捜し続ける「赤ちゃん鳥」さんを大好きになったのでしょう。
テンポもよく、今までの登場人物を思い出しながらの小さな旅は、読み聞かせている私にとっても心地よく、ユーモラスなイラストも楽しめました。

絵はもちろん、内容もとても可愛らしいです。英才教育を考えていらっしゃるならば、赤ちゃんの頃から読んであげても良いかと思います。英語は、ごく簡単な単語を使っています。文章も短いので、赤ちゃんや英語を習いたての小さなお子様向きです。
赤ちゃん鳥がお母さん鳥を探すのですが、ハッピーエンドが読者の心を温かくしてくれます。
