 「エンバリーおじさんの絵かきえほん」は、1970年代から（日本版は1981年から）ロングセラーを続けている人気シリーズ。『かお　かけちゃうよ』、『なんでも　かけちゃうよ』といった作品のタイトルどおり、三角や丸、四角、矢印といった単純な図形や線を組み合わせて、人の顔や動物、機関車、帆船などありとあらゆるものの描き方を手ほどきしてくれる絵本だ。

   この『どうぶつ　かけちゃうよ』で教えてくれるのは、全部で60あまりの動物たちの描き方。丸に「S」の字のしっぽをつけただけの「おたまじゃくし」から、たくさんの丸や三角に「V」「M」といった文字を組み合わせた「りゅう」まで。描く順序や部分が絵かき歌のように順を追って示されているから、子どもでも簡単にかわいらしいイラストを描くことができる。

   また、単にまねするだけではなく、自分だけのオリジナルイラストを描くためのヒントがたくさんちりばめられている点もうれしい。にっこり笑ったタコの顔にV字の眉毛をつけ足すと、意地悪そうな顔に早変わり。立派なツノのヤギを反対向きにもう1頭描くと、2頭が決闘している場面に。子どもならずとも、絵を描く楽しさにどんどん引き込まれてしまいそうだ。（中島正敏） --This text refers to the 単行本 edition.

いつも同じような絵しかかかなかった娘でしたが、イラストのまねをして描いているうちに、どんどん絵の世界が広がっていくようです。ちょっとしたヒントでこんなにたくさんのものが描けるんですね。動きのある絵に変わっていくのが分かり、私も感動です。

ママーライオン描いてー象さん描いてーとせがまれてもイマイチ絵が苦手だととほほ・・ですよね。この本は線や丸が書ければあらら・・という間に動物がかけてしまう魔法の様な一冊です。ママと子供と一緒になって描いて楽しめます。

この本、小さな子供より大人（プレゼントした子供のお母さん）が喜んでくれます。
子供は柔軟な発想で書き方の見本がなくても、自由にお絵描き楽しむことができるものだと思うのですが、頭の固い大人はナカナカ描けないですよね。

それと、子供には日本語版の方がいいのかなと思いますが、大人にプレゼントするなら、断然こっちの洋書の方がおしゃれだと思います。
