まずGolden Booksから出ているこの手のスキャリーのシリーズは、サイズが物凄く大きいです。　縦３１cm　横２７cm　厚さ１．５cm　あります。
小さい子が手に持って見ると言うよりは、床に広げるか、ママが持ってあげて読んであげる感じになります。
イラストはもちろんフルカラーで、懐かしい感じの動物のキャラクターと、英単語、その意味が英語でかかれています。
表表紙の裏には各キャラクターの名前も載っていますので、スキャリーシリーズを知らない方でも、楽しめると思います。
例えば、Aa の始まりでは、
above
A mosquito is flying above Flossie`s head. It is over her head. Look out,Flossie!
と、ウサギさんが宙を見上げているイラストと共に描かれています。

リチャード・スキャーリーの絵本をお探しの方なら、まず１番最初に是非この絵本を購入してr>Review:本当にかわいくて愉快で素敵な絵辞書だと思います。リチャード・スキャーリーが描くおなじみの動物のキャラクターたちは、皆とてもいい表情をしていて、ユーモラスでかわいくて見ているだけで子供も大人もとても楽しめます。そして、もちろん、それぞれの単語を説明している例文を１つ１つ読んでいけば、英語の勉強にもとてもなります。例文は、それぞれの単語ごとに２行から５行くらい添えられています。単語ごとに、それぞれがショートストーリーのようになっていて、１ページにつき７~８個くらいの単語、つまりストーリーが載っていますので、今日はこのページ・・・と、１日に１ページずつだけ読んでも、子供は毎日充分満足できると思います。子供の感性にもとてもいい影響を与える本だなぁ･･･と、購入してみて本当に良かったと思っています。１２８ページフルカラーで、ボリュームもたっぷり！この値段はとても安いと思います。３０年以上前からロングセラーであり続けている理由がよくわかりました！後悔のない１冊だと思います！とてもお勧めです！

5.0 out of 5 stars まさに題名のごとく、最高な絵辞書（＾＾）, 2005/1/15
スキャーリーおじさんの絵を初期中期後期に勝手に分けると、
中期の頃の絵が多い一冊です。
表紙裏に「この辞書に出てくる皆さん」と、多数の動物たちの
キャラクター紹介がありますが、比較的馴染み深い、
ねこのハックルやミミズのローリー、ぶたのフランブルさんは
見当たりません。（代わりによく似たねこさん一家やぶたさん一家が）いたずら三人組やディンゴは居ます。

中身はまさに辞書で、Ａの「aachoo」からＺの「zone」まで、
単語がいっぱいです。中学生に毛の生えた程度の英語レベルしか
持ち得ない私には、見たこともない単語もありますが、
親切な例文と、何より見るだけで楽しくなるスキャーリーおじさんの
絵が満載なのですぐに理解できます。

娘は中を見ているだけで大笑いしていました。
