4.4BSDの内部構造を解説している本。4.4BSDの開発コアメンバー自身によって、OSの設計（設計結果）だけでなく設計指針（考え方）も書かれている。4.4BSDそのものが古い代物になってはいますが、OSの一般的構造や、OS設計の考え方やアルゴリズムを理解するにはまだまだ有益。
