ほとんどの量子力学の教科書はメシアやシッフのような標準的なものを要約しているだけのような、でなければ噛み砕いているだけのようなものばかりだが、本書では著者が独自に量子力学全体を考えなおして論理を再構築しようとした様子が分かる。著者の深い考察によって量子力学の本質がえぐり出されており、その論理は非常に明確で力強い。著者がいかに量子力学をよく理解し、奇才だったかがうかがい知れる。第一章の整理された基本原理を中心にして、全ての章は有機的に結びついている。演習問題も単なるかき集めではなく、本文から派生する重要な応用が意図的に並べられている。この教科書はファインマンや朝永振一郎の教科書に並ぶ強烈な個性を放っている。しかも、この2冊が読み物的な傾向が強いのに比べて、本書は実用的である。後半部が本人の手でまとめられなかったのは本当に惜しまれる。

量子力学をじっくりと勉強するのに非常に良い本だと思います。量子力学の原理が非常にはっきりと分りやすく表されており、他の本では天下り的に書かれることの多いシュレディンガー方程式さえ原理から導き出されます。

数式は飛躍せず見通し良く書かれているので楽しみながら追っていけます。また、経路積分や、アインシュタイン・ローゼンのパラドックスなど他の本にはない話題が盛り込まれ飽きない構成になっていると思います。

しかし、この本は入門書ではなく波動方程式の解法について書かれてはいないので、 波動方程式による量子力学について一度学んだ人が読むのに適していると思います。

ディラックの教科書に雰囲気が似ていような感じの本である。量子力学を初めて学ぶ人には、ちょっととっつきにくい内容かもしれない（個人的には朝永振一郎が最適だと思う）。ただし、量子力学の論理構造を理解するのには非常にいい本である。著者のバックグランドが素粒子物理なので、物性をやっている人にはちょっと違和感があるかもしれないが、そういう人には上巻だけをお勧めする。下巻の内容は高エネルギー物理専攻の人向きだからである。わりあい初等的であるにも関わらず、経路積分やベルの不等式、ERPパラドックスなど、他の本では見かけない話題も豊富でおもしろい。
