About the Author

The late Richard P. Feynman (1918-1988) was Richard Chace Tolman Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology. He was awarded the 1965 Nobel Prize for his work on the development of quantum electrodynamics, the theory of light and matter. He was also one of the most famous and beloved figures of the twentieth century, both in physics and in the public arena.

この本にはファインマンの遊び心がぎっしり.日本の物理のテキストのように堅苦しいことはまったくなく,ユーモアを交えて,物理の本質に迫る.物理好きであればファインマンの世界にすっかりはまってしまうだろう.和訳のファインマン物理学の原著と聞いて難しいと感じる方もいるが,物理を専攻する学生はもちろん,理系全般の学生にとっては決して難しくはない.英語の勉強も同時にできるので,腰を据えて物理を学びたい学生にはもってこいのテキストだろう.

この本は物理学を専門に学ぼうと思っている人にはもちろん、それ以外の人にも理解できるようなわかりやすく簡潔な言葉で書いてある。それもそのはず、この本は実際ファインマン氏のレクチャーを元に作成されているからである。たまにはジョークも混じりながら、しかし、厳密性を失わず、見事に物理学を語り抜いている。 ファインマンの物理にかける情熱が彼のレクチャーを通じてひしひしと伝わってくる、まさしく物理学のバイブルである。
