こういうのを探してました。
ネイティヴ向け辞書の入門としては、これしかないなといった感じの内容です。

1定義文が良い。簡潔で解り易く、語彙も易しい。さらに、定義文中で、
「推測可能で、省略してしまっても構わないが、書いてあれば語義をより正確に理解できる」という部分が、
括弧で囲んで示してある。
例）reveal ●v.1 make (previously unknown or secret imformation) known. 2 cause (something hidden) to be seen.

2かなり多くの単語について、語源が記されている。

3thsaurusは、用法など載っておらず簡易なものではあるが、既得の知識を手がかりに語義を多角的に把握するのに役立つ。
また、imformalの表示があったり、派生語や成句の類義語について、どこを参照すれば良いか示してあったりと、工夫がされている。
適宜対義語も載せてある。
例）imform ●v.1 advise, apprise, brief,.... 2(informal)blab, give information,....■PHRASES inform against See BETRAY. ■DERIVATIVES informed See KNOWLEDGEABLE.

巻末のWordpower　Guide　も使えます。版型がＰＯＤよりも大きく（日本の中辞典サイズ）１行の字数も多くなっていて、読みやすいのも有難い。
定義文中に、語義の把握が曖昧、もしくは全く知らない単語等もちらほら出てくるので、その辺りの補強・増進も同時に行えます。

自分のように、脱中級を目指している方にお勧めしたい辞書です。

比較的やさしい単語を使って説明されているので、それほど英語力がなくても
使いこなせると思います。
しかも、下に類語辞典が付いているので、とても便利。
価格の割に紙質が良いのも好感が持てます。
注意しないといけないのは、イギリス英語が基本になっていること。
米語も注記されていますが、ちょっと気をつけないとダメですね。
自分としては気に入っています。
大変、お奨めです。
