The Oxford Picture Dictionary の英和版です
全ての単語に和訳が付いてとても便利です
３，７００語以上の基本的な単語が収められているし、索引も日本語と英語の２種類付いていました

単語はそれぞれの場面に分けて書いてあり、例えば「洗濯をする」場面では洗濯機とその周辺の物の名前だけではなく、洗濯物を「仕分ける」→洗剤を「加える」→と、いう関連した単語も書いてあります
各ページに簡単な練習問題が付いていました

６年生の甥にプレゼントしようと思って買いましたが、面白かったので自分の物にしてしまいました

索引に発音記号が付いていますが、カセットがあったので注文しました

ただ、眺めているだけでも楽しめます
子供のために買うのも良いですが、きっと親の方が楽しんでしまうと思いますよ

この本の内容は、Word by Wordとほとんど同じものです。本の体裁、場面の並び順、収録語彙、等々。初めての人に両方を渡したら、どっちがどっちだったか、分からなくなるほど似ています。敢えて言うと、こちらのほうが、場面毎の収録語数が少なめです。

しかしながら、イラストの描き方や配置等の工夫によって、こちらのほうがはるかに分かりやすくなっています。一つにページに、無理をして多数の単語を入れていないのが良いのかもしれません。

いずれにしても、絵本辞書の場合は、手にとって自分の目で見ないことには良さや悪さが分かりませんが、私の感じでは、類書中、最も分かりやすかったです。英語を習い立ての小中学生から、留学を目指す高校生・大学生まで、幅広く使えることでしょう。

自分用に日本語・英語併記のものを買いました。英語のみのものもあります。生活のいろんな場面の単語が含まれています。ネイティブなら誰でも知っている事でも、外国語として学ぶ私達には知らない事もたくさんあります。肉屋や魚屋で出てくる単語も楽しめます。

子供に見せたら面白がってしばらく見ています。ただ基本的には、ある程度既に英語の読み方が分かっている人向け（ネイティブの子供向け）だと思います。発音記号はありますが、巻末を見る必要があり、また記号もアメリカ式（？）なので、少し慣れるまで時間が掛かるかもしれません。

できれば、日本人の子供ももっと楽しめるように、絵の部分にカタカナ・ひらがなを利用した版があっても良いのでは？と思いました。高校生くらいなら楽しめると思います。
