英語ノン・ネイティブが陥る語法上の間違いに焦点をあて、この本ほど

・項目的に幅広く
・重要ﾎﾟｲﾝﾄについて納得するために必要十分な整理を行い
・文脈的によく吟味され、ヴァラエティーにとんだ多くの例文をあげ、
・時制、法､類似表現など類書では説明が単純すぎたり複雑すぎて（あるいは､理論に突っ込みすぎて）すっきりしないような部分を、あくまで実用的に解明した

バランスのよい解説書を他に知りません。英語ノンネイティブの中級から上級向きでしょう。私は英語を内外で30年使ってきた実務家で、３版をざっと読んだだけですが、自然できちんとした英語を使う上での示唆をずいぶん得ました。

著者は日本を含めた世界中の英語研究者・教育関係者からフィードバックを得て、「正しい英語」「間違った英語」の区別にかかわる多くの詳細な研究・議論をこの本に反映させる一方、実用性が損なわれないように努めたわけです。

標準語法からの逸脱がコミュニケーションの障害になるかどうかという観点もお忘れなく、という主旨の短いコメントを(現代英語語法の権威として知られる）著者が付け加えているのも印象的でした。

　分厚いが大変平易な英語で書かれていて読みやすい。通読もさほど苦労ではない。
　インデックスも充実しており、わからないところも探しやすい。
　「こういう表現は使っていけない」とか「この二つの似た語句はこう使い分ける」といった書き方をしているのもユーザーフレンドリーである。
　特に学術的・専門的な用語や解説はなく、ひたすら実用的な学習者の手引きとして書かれている。
　英語学専攻の大学生以上なら通読できるし、通読しておくべき。

実にタイトルに偽りなく、実用的な本です。
買ってみて意外と面白いことを発見。
それは汚い言葉遣い。どういう言い回しが悪いか、書かれています。
普通の文法書とは違うのはこういう所ですね。
参考になります。
１冊持っていると、何かと英語に対する理解が深まる期待が持てます。
英文も読みやすく、英検２級以上なら問題ないでしょう。
