本当に本当に「愛して病まない」本に出会いました。
間違いなく私の２００８年のベストブックです。

この本の著者、

エリザベス（リズ）は、誰もがうらやむような生活をニューヨーク郊外でしている。お家、旦那様、作家としてのキャリア。全てがそろっているように見えるのに、その生活に「息が詰まる」。眠れない夜をすごし、夜中に突然バスルームで崩れ落ちる。自分の中の「神」との対話。その後、離婚をし、恋人との恋愛関係に悩み、色々な思いを抱えて、全てを置いて、旅に出かけるのです。

そして、ここからは、題名の通り、

イタリアで、eat

インドで、pray

そして

インドネシアのバリで、love

沢山傷ついて、でもなんとか自分を見つめなおし、自分を探し出そうとするリズの旅行記。

彼女のウィット、ユーモア、優しさ、大胆さ、全てに共感できます。

英語も簡単！簡単！というレベルではないかもしれませんが、優しい、美しい文で、そして何より、面白い。

くすくす笑い、時には涙したりしながら、じっくりゆっくりと味わいながら読めます。

人生と、魂に関する沢山の教え。
説教ではないのですが、読んでいると、「ずーん」と胸に来る良い言葉が満載です。

お勧めです。
私はこれから一生、この本を何度も読み返すことになると思います

仕事、結婚、マンハッタンのマンション、恋愛･･･
たくさんの人の望む「素敵な人生」を送っていても心が落ち着かず
いつもunstableだったLizが自分探しの旅ともいえる
合計1年間の海外生活を送る話です。

私は日本人だし、夫もいないし、仕事で成功してもいないし、
これだけ旅をするお金もない。でも、とても共感できるのです。
張り詰めていた糸が切れそうになった瞬間を、
私も経験しているからかもしれません。

イタリア、インド、インドネシアと旅を重ねる彼女は、
心から自分が楽しいと思える毎日を送ります。
彼女が「生き返っていく」姿が素敵でした。
自分や、大切だったものを取り戻していく姿が。

彼女の言葉の選び方が好きで、先へ先へと引き込まれました。
今でも忘れられないのが、とても単純な文章。

「だから、私はイタリアが好き」

ただそれだけで彼女のイタリアへの愛情が伝わります。

英語で分厚い本ですが、英語自体は難しくないと思います。
ただ1つ1つのお話が長く、たまに中だれするので、
それを乗り越えられればどんどん楽しくなってきます。

何度も読みたいです。

一人の女性の恋愛・人生の旅についての素晴らしい本です。
一年間イタリア・インドネシア・インドを旅しながら
様々な人に出会い、人生とは？自分とは一体なんだろう？
と自分とひたすら向き合う姿に私は共感できました。
ヨガスタジオで知り合った女性に勧められ購入しましたが、
期待以上の本でこの先また何度も読み返したい本です。
