academic writingとのことなので、海外の大学（院）に留学する方は勿論、ビジネスで英文書を作成しなくてはならない方にも非常に有効な学習書です。
パラグラフライティングの基本的構造（introduction, support sentence, conclusion）からcoherant wordsの説明まで、日本の義務教育および高校教育では決して学ぶ事のできない文章技術が学べます。これから大学（院）に留学する方は、この本1冊勉強するだけで、これからの留学生活がかなり楽になると思います（経験者としての感想）。
また、本書は大学でのエッセイ・論文作成をテーマにしていますが、一般のビジネスシーンでもかなり使えます。というか、英語を母国語とする人（ビジネスでやりとりするような一定の教育水準を満たす人）の文章は基本的にパラグラフライティングに則っているでしょうから、その基本構造を学べば英文の読解力および作文力が上がることは間違いないと思います。

同シリーズはレベル分けされているようですが、簡単な洋書が読める位の英語力がある方なら、難なくこの本を理解できると思います。説明も問題も全て英語ですが、そんなに難しい英語を使っていません。

また、本書に含まれる小テストの回答は別売り（700円強）ですが、独学ならお金がかかっても購入した方がいいと思いました（私は本書購入後、改めて解答本を購入）。意味の似通った副詞・接続詞の選択問題等、外国語として英語を学ぶ場合、あてずっぽうや「何となく」の理解では本当の意味で学習できないです。そもそも解答がいらない位の文章力があれば、こんな本いらないと思います（実感）。

大学のライティングコースでのテキストでした。英文エッセイを書く上でのコツを、文単位から説明してくれます。英文では、日本の学校で書いてきた作文やレポートよりも一貫性と情報の正確さ、剽窃（他人の意見をさも自分の意見であるかのように書くこと）への厳しい注意が求められています。テキストの内容は網羅的でわかりやすく、手ほどき書としては最適と思われます。

日本の大学の先生できちんと英語で学術論文の書き方まで指導できる先生は増えてきたとはいえ　そう多数派ではありません。この本で指導できる先生にwriting指導を受けられる人は 幸せです。４月7日から毎週水曜日夜10：00~10：30　ラジオ短波で慶應義塾の通信教育の放送英語ライティングの授業の教科書として来年の　1月まで学べます。　講師は法学部助教授　井上逸平先生です。オーストラリアあたりから日本に来ている先生のいる英会話学校で　犬が好きか猫が好きかとやるよりも　本当の英語力をつけたい方にお薦めします。
