5つ星のうち 4.0 新しい試験方法には未対応です, 2009/9/22
現在の試験は3.5時間に短縮されていますが、本書は以前の試験方法を想定して書かれています。現在の試験内容についてはRed Hatのサイトで確認する必要があります。著者自身が本文中で述べているようにまず出題されることはなさそうな点についても触れています。その意味で試験内容よりも広い範囲の内容がカバーされています。RHCTの問題については90%以上の得点ができるでしょう。RHCEの問題についてはいくつかの内容がそれほど詳しく扱われていないようですが、合格ラインには達することができると思われます。RHCEの参考書として2009年夏時点で本書ほど包括的に試験内容をカバーした参考書は見当たりません。米国でももっとも売れている参考書の一つです。

本書はRHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)そのものの初学者向け学習書ではありません。試験準備のための参考書です。少なくともLinuxまたはUNIXに基づいたOSを多少は利用した経験があることを前提としています。管理に精通している必要はありません。本書の中でかなり詳しく述べられています。

この種の英語の参考書は国内のもの（翻訳書をのぞく）に比べるとぶ厚いことが多いので英文の多読に少し慣れていないとページ数を見るだけでうんざりするかもしれませんが、本書はわりあい平易な英語で書かれているので、試験準備をかねて英語の多読の練習に利用するのも一考かもしれません。

CD-ROMやDVDは添付されていません。本書の中でも紹介されていますが、Red Hat Enterprise ServerのDVDがなくても、CentOSのように無償で入手できるRed Hat相当のOSが利用できます。試験中はInternetを検索したり参考書を見ることはもちろんできませんが、インストールされるファイルの中に含まれている文書やマニュアルページは自由に見ることができます。試験準備の際は暗記するのではなく、必要な情報や参考になる情報がどこにあるのかを確認しながら学習されるとよいと思います。

資格本なので英語でもそこそこ読めるのですが、日本語化してくれるとありがたいですね。この手の本ほとんど日本語本がない。
また、驚くのはその厚さ、電話帳並ですｗ。
