うさぎ母子によって繰り広げられる空想上の追いかけっこのお話です。

子うさぎはなんとか逃げきろうと様々な物に変身していくのですが、お母さんうさぎもその都度適当な物に変身して子を追いかけるので子はさらに変身を繰り返していきます。素晴らしいと思うのは母うさぎが子供の作った空想の枠組の中に入っていくというところです。逃げるな！と命じたり下らないと切り捨てたりせずに子供をその想像力の翼で自由に飛び回らせながら、限りなく包み込むような愛で子を追いかけていく---先回りとかせずに追いかけていくというところにも何とも言えない温かみを私は感じますね。白黒の文章のページとカラーの絵だけのページがほぼ交互になっているのですが、この”絵”がかなりファンタスティックなので独特のテンポもあいまってかなりインパクトがあります。ちなみに”うさぎキャラ”と”文・絵の繰り返し”は同じ作者の”My World"と同じですがRunnaway-の方がより絵にパワーがあるような気がします。
どちらも大変味わい深い作品ですが。

一歳前後の息子に読んでやったところ、絵も地味だし　内容が複雑すぎてわからなかったよう。しかし　ﾏﾏうさぎの子を思うひたむきな気持ちに読んでる私の目頭は熱くなりました。二歳位の子供からはいいのではないでしょうか？内容はとてもいい絵本で、ﾏﾏっていうのはこんなに子供のことを愛しているのよと絵本を通じても言いたいﾏﾏにはうってつけの名作。あとあの有名な絵本Goodnight Moonのうさぎの部屋の壁にはこの絵本の絵がか飾られていますよ。

親子の愛の深さ、愛情をとても上手に表現している本です。忙しくすごして、子供と一緒に遊べなかった夜、この本をベッドで読んで、ママはあなたのことがとっても大切なのよ。と、本を通じで子供にわかってもらえたら・・・。こちらは、親子の愛情ですが、“Guess How Much I Love You"は、友情から生まれる愛情表現をとてもよくあらわしていて、どちらもとても素敵な絵本です。
