秘密の花園のretold版ですので、いくつかのエピソードが削られていますが、
内容は良くまとまっています。

子供向きの平易な英文なので、中学卒業程度で十分読めると思います。
使用人の言葉はヨークシャー訛りで表記されていますので、これが読みにくい
と思う人がいるかもしれません。

友人からもらったとき、正直言って「古典名作だし飽きそう」という思いが強かったです。しかし、一度読んでみると、不思議にはまってしまい、ノンストップで読み終わってしまいました。こちらがすっきりするくらいに物事をはっきりと言うMaryに心優しくて一度会ってみたくなるようなDickon、不器用だけどMaryのことが大好きな病気のCollin、その他にも優しいメイドやきっついおばさんなど、とにかく登場人物の個性がすごい！人物の描写も、実際その人を見ているような感覚にさせてくれます。ヨークシャーの方言も特有の言い回しも興味深くて、それに慣れようとがんばるMaryも可愛かったです。幼い頃読んだ「秘密の花園」はこんなにおもしろかったっけ？と思ってしまいます。みなさんも是非この感動作をもう一度読み直してみてはいかがですか？

アニメや絵本などいろいろな種類があるけれど、やっぱり原作が
一番雰囲気がででいました。
物語にでてくる人々すべて個性的で、いい味だしてます。
英語が苦手な人でも、割と楽に読めると思います。はじめの一冊にどうぞ！
