アメリカで、この話を知らない人はいないというくらい人気のある子供向けのお話です。心の描写が細かくて、悲しい場面では本当に泣きたくなるくらい悲しくなり、温かい気持ちになる場面では、心の芯からポカポカしてきます。"I'll be a friend to you."という台詞から、色々な事が始まります。CharlotteからWilburに伝えられる事が、一つ一つ全て重みのある言葉で、まるで自分に言われている言葉のように思えてなりません。大人になってからも、何度も読み返してしまう大切な本です。

これ、名作です。豚とクモの友情のお話ですが、感動の涙もぽたりとたれます。ローラで有名なガースウィリアムズの挿絵もいい味出してる。
幼少期の読書体験って本当に大切ですよね。この本を読んでから、私はクモが怖くなくなりました。1年以上同居している小さいクモの名前もシャーロットです。小さなお子さんへの贈り物にも最適です。

単なる児童文学ではない、じんわりとした深みのある話です。

中身は当然話せませんが、私は自分の子供に聞かせたくなったり、
いつか自分で読めるようになって自分で感動してくれたら安心だと思ったり、
大人になって英語で本を読みたいといってきたらこれを薦めようとか
いろいろ考えて楽しみになりました。

ちなみに、英語のレベルは比較的簡単ですが、農場用語、動物・虫の名前など
ちょっと日本人になじみの薄い単語がでてきます。
はじめに出てきたところで調べちゃえば、難しくないですね。
それにしても、同じ作者（ですよね）の「Element of Style」は文章論の
古典ですが、その人の書いた割には、ちょっと難しいかな。文学作品だから
ほんのちょっと表現をひねってるんだと思いますが。
Element of Styleのファンの方もぜひ！
