繊細で、どこか幻想的でおごそかな絵にひかれて手にとりました。
はじめは、どうしてくろいうさぎが悲しがっているのかわからず、興味深く読みます。そうして、なぜくろいうさぎがふさぎこんでいたのか分かった時点で、私は、「ああ、これは大人のための本でもあるな」と思いました。
子どもには、くろいうさぎの悲しみが、いまいちぴんと来ないかもしれない、と思います。
しかし、恋をしたことのある人なら分かります。この人と、ずっといっしょにいたいと感じたその日から、ふりつもる不安、不安、不安。こんなにも好きなのに、はなれてしまったらどうしよう、という、幸福であるがゆえにそれが壊れることへの恐怖。
きっと、くろいうさぎの短いせりふから、大人たちはその気持ちを感じとり、共感するのです。

子どもはハッピーエンドとなるこのお話を単純に楽しむでしょうし、大人は短い台詞に隠された複雑な気持ちを感じ取る。年齢に沿った読み方のできる、すばらしい、美しい絵本です。

この本は、幼い日に母が、姉と僕とに読んでくれた思い出の本だ。
比較的はきはきした姉と、いつも姉の後をついて歩いていた僕は
白いウサギと黒いウサギのようだと母に言われていた。
この本のいのちは、「いつも　いつも　いつまでも」という
フレーズに凝縮されているように思う。
いつも一緒にいるよ、というメッセージは究極のものだと思う。
もし、世界中が敵に回っても、
黒いウサギは白いウサギのそばを離れないと、僕は信じることが出来る。

　この本は、日本名では「しろいうさぎとくろいうさぎ」というタイトルなっているが、原著（英語版）
では「The Rabbits' Wedding 」というタイトルである。

　内容は、英語版のタイトルからもわかるように、しろいうさぎさんとくろいうさぎさんが、結婚する
お話であり２匹が仲良く末永く暮らすとお話です。
　
　わたしは、この絵本の内容を知ったときに、なんて素敵なおはなしなんだろうと思いました。その
ときから、知人が結婚する際に、この２匹のしろいうさぎさんとくろいうさぎさんにあやかって、末
永く幸せになってほしい思い、結婚祝いとしてプレゼントすることにしている１冊です。
