　2008年夏、寺島レコード移籍後第1作「MAYA＋JAZZ」でジャズに絞ったアルバムを出したときから、「次はラテンアルバムを」との声が高かったMAYAだが、ついに待望のラテンアルバムをリリース。
　これは、期待以上の仕上がりで、お薦め品である。
　選曲は、いわゆるラテンのレパートリーに限定せず、MAYAがラテンテイストと考える曲で構成し、演奏は松尾明ds、嶌田憲二ｂ、内田光昭tbらの組みなれたJAZZミュージシャン中心の編成。
　MAYAが考えるラテンテイストとは何か？それは、内ジャケットのMAYA自身のコメントを読んでいただくとして、１曲目、SASの桑田氏作曲「稲村ジェーン」が素晴らしい。MAYAの青春のアイドルと思われるSAS＆桑田氏だけに、この選曲はさすが見事と言うべきで、この1曲でリスナーの心を鷲掴みしてグイっと惹きつけてしまう（男性コーラス？はご愛嬌。）。
　３曲目SER Y NO SERは、ベサメムーチョ(２曲目）と同じ作曲者だが、MAYA得意の哀愁のメロディを持つ曲で、私はベサメよりこちらの方が好きだ。
　さらに４曲目ABRAZAMEで、哀愁曲をたたみ込んで、連続ヒット。
　そして、５曲目SABOR A MI、こういう明るさを持った曲調の優しいヴォーカル曲を必ず入れるのが成功の法則。かつての「砂に消えた涙」等と同様で、人間は、辛いときに涙をこらえて笑って見せることができるのだから。内田氏の柔らかい音色のトロンボーンが抜群のサポートで、いい雰囲気を醸し出しており、個人的には本作のベストチューン。
　6曲目MARIA CERVANTESはインストだが、ラテン音楽界では有名なピアニストであるという岡田げん氏のピアノソロを前面に立てた演奏で小休止。
　アルバム後半、Maysaの「崩れた世界」も良いが、やはりアルバムタイトルナンバー「優しいマルチニークの女」が楽しい。この曲はライブではかなり前から歌っていて、毎回盛り上がっているが、実にノリが良く楽しい曲だ。「マヤコレ」の関根彰良のギターが印象的。
　全体的には、スタジオ録音なので、ライブでの歌＆演奏と比べれば端正で大人しめの印象があるかもしれないが、このアルバムを聴いて気に入った人は、ぜひ、ライブにも足を運んでいただきたい。よりビビッドな表現に触れることができる。
　ＣＤとアナログＬＰでは、表ジャケットの写真も全く異なり、ＬＰの写真のほうが好みという人も多いかも知れないが、実はＣＤの内ジャケットにも4枚のポートレートが載っていて、いずれも表ジャケット以上の良い出来。
　特に、最後の黒い帽子をかぶったものは実に美しく撮れているので、ビジュアル面も重視される方には要チェック。

1.稲村ジェーン　⇒カッコイイ曲だがどこか切ない。
2.ベサメムーチョ ⇒とても切ない
3.セル・イ・ノ・セル　⇒軽快でしなやかな歌だが、ちょっと切ない。
4.アブラサメ ⇒なぜか涙が溢れるくらい切ない。　
5.サボール・ア・ミ ⇒軽快で明るい歌だが、どことなく切ない。
6.ラ・クンパルシータ　⇒力強いテンポだが、妙に切ない。　
7.崩れた世界 ⇒心を切り裂かれるように切ない。
8.プリンセサ・カバジェーロ　⇒繰り返される印象的なメロディの余韻が何気なく切ない。
9.優しいマルチニークの女　⇒マルチニーク島の夕暮れ時に聞いたら切ない。
10.三つの言葉　⇒迫り来る切なさ。
★歌い手の思いが聞き手を切なく癒すラテン作品★
