「Hibari」（ドビッシューの曲を思わせる）や「To　Standard」は、「BTTB」「1996」「04」などどちらかといえばシンプルで美しいピアノ曲を集めたアルバムを期待している人には期待通りの曲かと思う。

しかし、大半の曲、たとえば「Still Life」「Tama」「Firewater」「Disko」といったほとんどの曲は、美しいピアノの旋律を期待している人には受け入れにくいのかもしれない。

とはいえ、喜太郎や姫神といったシンセサイザーを活用したニューエイジの音楽も好きだという人にはストライクゾーンに入るだろう。
「普通の生活の音」（水、動物の声など）を取り込んだ曲に教授らしさを感じた（以前のアルバムからもそうなのだが）。「普通の生活の音」とシンセサイザーのメロディーの組み合わせにより、個人的には「自然」をすごく感じさせるアルバムで、聞いていてリラックスできる。

ちなみに、教授は最近自伝「音楽は自由にする」で次のようなことを語っているが、なぜ普通の生活の「音」を積極的に取り入れようとしているのかについてヒントを与えてくれる。
新しい音楽の可能性を追求している彼の次回作も個人的には楽しみだ。

●「近代に向かって、人間は音楽に関しても（中略）論理的に操作しようという方向で向かってきたことがわかる。1950年頃（略）ジョン・ケージがでてきて、操作をくわえない、偶然に任せてしまう音楽というものを提示するにいたった」
●「ケージがそのような音楽に向かったのは日本の禅の影響からだったが、僕が今回のアルバムで茶道や華道に通じるような日本的なものがあると感じています」
●「高校時代に出会って強く影響を受けた、ケージを始めとするアメリカの前衛音楽を介して、禅的なものと一回りしてつながっているのかも知れません」

　「音」と「音楽」の　はざまに揺れるアルバムだ。

　「音楽」とは「音を楽しむ」という意味であるとしたら　このアルバムこそがそうかもしれない。聴いているものが　音楽というべきなのか　それとも音というべきなのか。絶えず　それを考えながら聴いた。これは稀有な体験である。本作の　大半の曲に関して　それの楽譜すら想像出来ない。もしかしたら　楽譜には　坂本が書いた「絵」だけあるのではないか。
　そんな気がした。

　考えて見ると　「音」を楽しむのが僕らだ。風鈴、鹿おどし、花火等　音を愛でる文化をそもそも持っている。これは日本だけではあるまい。例えばロシアの映画「惑星ソラリス」でも宇宙船の通風口に紙で作ったすだれを掛けて　音を楽しむという忘れ難い場面もある。また　雨の音への愛着も　日本以外でもあるような気がする。

　そんな「音」への愛着に対して「音楽」から迫ったのが　本作ではあるまいか。

　このアルバムから聞こえてくる「音」は　妙に懐かしく　安らぎを覚えるものがあった。
　坂本が　掬いあげてきた「音」の中には　自分の原点に迫るものがあるのではないだろうか？

　そんなことを絶えず考えながら聴いた一枚である。繰り返すが　僕にとって稀有な体験となった。

購入する時、ＣＤシングルよりも薄く軽いパッケージにびっくり。
開けてみてさらに、「ここまでするんだ・・・」と、感動にも近い驚きがありました。
蓋すらない。
徹底した簡略化に、坂本教授の意思を改めて感じました。
そして、坂本教授の最新アルバムが2000円以下というのもすごいことですよね。

内容は、とても心地よい曲ばかりです。
前作は、気持ちいい曲、聞いてて戸惑う曲、いろいろありましたが、
今回はいい意味でさらっと、でも気がつくと「きれいだなぁ…」と
ずっとかけていても邪魔にならない気持ちよさです。
透明で切ないような、空気感を楽しむアルバムだと思います。
