へヴィメタルのような音楽を背ににチェロの演奏。
しかし、チェロの音はしっかりと聞こえ、その組み合わせに違和感は感じられませんでした。
インストゥルメンタルで構成されたアルバムですが、
スピード感のあるハードな曲からバラードまであり、ヴォーカル入りの2曲もとても素敵です。

特にニナ・ハーゲンの歌うシーマンは独特な声と歌い方に吃驚するのではないでしょうか。
クラシックが好きな人、へヴィメタルが好きな人、両方にオススメします。

フィンランドのチェロ三人組み、アポカリプティカの4作目。

メタリカのカヴァーバンドから独自のチェロメタルを発展させ、前作「CULT」においてひとつの形態を完成させた。
さらに続く今作ではゲストにSLAYERのデイブ・ロンバルドを迎え、ドラム入りの曲ではますますメタル的なアグレッシブさが増している。
もちろん、クラシカルで美しいチェロの響きを聴かせてくれる曲もあり、その高いクオリティの曲アレンジと独自の世界観には、もはやカルトなバンドからは脱却し、多くのリスナーが注目すべきバンドになったと言えるだけの風格さえある。
ロックフォーマットだけがメタルではないのだという、フィンランドからの回答がここにある。

　Classicでそれなりに教育を受けた人たちのバンドです。この前までの作品は、ノードラムでした。各々の曲は素晴らしいものがあるのですが、何かパワー不足を感じていました。この作品からドラマーが参加し（数曲スレイヤーでいい仕事をしていた（いる）職人が叩いています）文句一つ付けられない内容だと思います。１曲目から「ぶっ飛び」ます。すましてチェロを弾いている人たちには申し訳ないけれど、このアポカリプティカの方が何かをこの世の中に訴えています。スラッシュメタル信仰者も、筋金入りのクラッシック信仰者の人達にもぜひぜひ聞いてほしいと思います。
