パワプロが今までの野球を変えたように、ファミスタも野球ゲームを変えた。
実名で無いにせよ、その遊び心のあるネーミングは、ファンの心をくすぐりました。
全球団登場しないので、パ・リーグに連合軍が登場。
今の巨人のようなとんでもない面子が揃っています。

アウトになってベンチに帰るスピードが速いなど、ツッコミ所満載でまさにゲームとして確立していました。
リアルさだけが、ゲームの面白さでは無い。
このゲームは、それを物語っています。

このゲームが出る前は、任天堂のベースボールしか野球ゲームは
無かった。守備もオートで自分で動かせる範囲も狭かった。

ところが、このファミスタは野球ゲームのフォーマットを一変させた。
１．自分で動かせる守備
２．投げ分けられる球種
３．進塁状況によって変わるＢＧＭ
４．ホームランの派手なファンファーレ
５．リリーフピッチャーの登場

など、プレイヤーのゲーム介入率が格段に上がった。
対戦も熱く、プレイするたびに喧嘩の毎日だったのを覚えている。

このあとデータ改変版が毎年出され、ハードもファミコンから時代に
応じて進化していくが、土台はこの「ファミスタ」なのである。

ファミコン初の、プロ野球をモチーフにした野球ゲーム。
といっても、これ以前には任天堂ベースボールしかなく、それには選手個人のパラメータも無ければ継投も代打も無く、左右はランダムというものでした。

普通の野球としても、スピード感があって、いくつもの攻略法があり、やりこめばそれだけ面白くなるゲームでした。
慣れてコンピュータには100%負けなくなっても、対戦で人間同士の駆け引きを楽しめました。
この面白さは、他社の野球ゲームにも長期間無かったのです。
後に出たファミコンの野球ゲームで、ファミスタと同等の面白さを持っていたのは「ベースボールスター」だけでしょう。
さすがに今では古さを感じますが、これだけ長く遊べたゲームは今でもそれほど存在していません。
個人的には、今でもパワプロよりは面白いと思います。

ところでこのゲーム、プロ野球をモチーフにしながら、容量の関係で10球団しかありません（しかも1チームはオリジナルの「ナムコスターズ」）。
当然、どこかで端折らなければ収まりません。
そこで用いられたのは、一部の球団を合併させるという手段。
鉄道会社が母体の「レイルウェイズ」と、食品会社が母体の「フーズフーズ」。
これは、今思えば「大予言」ですね。
