ちょうど良いボリュームにシステム・操作性・ミニゲーム・ストーリーに１からの引き継ぎ、そしてPSで当時発表されていたことを考えると、シリーズ最高傑作と間違いなく言えます。

掘り出し物も２から登場でしたし、遊びやすいミニゲームに燃えられる料理バトル。あとはなんと言っても時間勝負のイベント＋ベストエンディング同時進行。それに加え時期限定アイテム収集となると難易度も増して非常に楽しめます。ベストエンドじゃない選択もして選択キャラを集めるところも個人的に好きです。

他には鍛冶・装備・紋章が待機キャラも操作出来るようになり、進行がスムーズになったこと、前作ファンも納得のイベントやキャラの使用に戦闘の円滑さの上昇など評価するところばかり目立ちます。これらの点は３以降と比べても優れているので大変優秀。もちろんストーリー自体も言うこと無し。

唯一の欠点はレシピバグ。２周目に悩まされました。それでも文句なしでシリーズ最高傑作ですけどネ。

これ、ゲーム？というくらいストーリーが秀逸。
演出が良い。あのちゃっちい画面が見せる演出に感動できるとは。
昨今の「単なる美しい最先端画像」と比べ物にならない出来。感動というものは画像が美しいだけではいけないのだということが実感できるはず。

発売からもうすぐ10年になりますが今だにこの作品を超えるストーリーを持ったRPGは現れていません。今でも1年に1度はプレイしてしまいます。幻想水滸伝シリーズはまだ続いていますが、一度原点に戻って2D画面のストーリー重視のゲームを作ってほしいというのがファンとしての率直な意見です。
