　以前LPで聴いたノヴェンバー・ステップスのトロント響盤は、ミシンと蝙蝠傘が無理やり舞台につれてこられて出会ったというような、たがいにすきを見せれば斬り倒されかねないような、とげとげしい緊張感と、荒削りな良さと迫力があった。けれど、こちらはすでに名曲の誉れを得て、何度も演奏が繰り返されたあとだけに、精緻に練られていて、よりスケールの広がりがあり、しかも演者がみな日本語と日本食で育った者たちの集団であるだけに、音の溶け合いかたがちがうのだ。それでここでは、より緻密により洗練されたノヴェンバー・ステップスを聴くことができる。

私が初めてノヴェンバーステップスを聴いたのは、今から20年以上前のことである。そのときには、小澤・トロント響のLPだったのだが、非常に衝撃を受けた記憶がある。

今再び、ノヴェンバーステップスを聴き直して思うのは、尺八と琵琶とオーケストラ、以外に、静寂というものがこの曲にとって非常に重要なファクタになっているんだな、ということである。昔聴いた、小澤・トロント響、と、今回聴いた、小澤・サイトウキネン、では、オケは異なるものの、指揮者、尺八、琵琶の演奏者は同一で、大きな演奏上の差異は正直感じられず、デジタル録音が故の静寂さという点で、このサイトウキネン版のほうが、図らずも武満の意図を反映しているのではないか、と思った。

他の曲も素晴らしい。おすすめ。☆５

　小澤征爾指揮の武満徹作曲ＣＤはいろいろ出ているのですが、中でもサイトウ・キネン・オーケストラの演奏は最高だと思います。小澤さんが愛情もって育ててきたオーケストラで、互いに尊敬しあっていた武満徹の作品を奏でる！！愛情のある演奏です。　
　また、琵琶などの和楽器には日本のオーケストラが１番合っているなぁとも感じました。
　音も明瞭でわかりやすく、現代音楽(特に武満作品)に取っつきにくいひとにもオススメです！！
