次作『バームクーヘン』が筆頭に挙がることが多いのだが、個人的に最高傑作としてはこちらを推す。

端的に言って、アレンジはかなり聴きやすさ重視。メロディーの立った曲が目立ち、ストリングスやホーン類の導入も風通しを良くするのに一役買っている。特に「風の王」なんかが顕著だろう。楽曲が非常に粒ぞろいだ。また、曲調・アートワークまで、一貫して盛夏のイメージで構成されていて、アルバムとして芯も通っている。

ただ今作が意義深いのは、はじめて自然体のTHE HIGH-LOWSになったところだ。前2作はやはりブルーハーツの亡霊みたいなものを引きずっていて、それを振り払うべく極端にナンセンスになったり、アグレッシブになり過ぎたりするきらいがあったと思う。しかし今作はナンセンスでもイノセンスでもなく、それでいてロックだという最高の立ち位置を手にしている。その立ち位置をもとに、よりラジカルに深化したのが『バームクーヘン』ということになろうが、音楽を聴く楽しさがより詰まっているのは本作だと思う。

だから、THE HIGH-LOWSを聴くのならまず本作から入るべきだ。深く考えず、耳馴染みの良いロックンロールを存分に楽しむ。メッセージはきっと後からついてくる。

音楽は聴く人の気分や性格によって違う色に見える。
私が見た色は、ヒロトの声と、マーシーのギターと、先人くんのベース、賢治さんのドラム、白井さんのキーボード。
E=MC2「呼吸してる意識もあるぜ　ただひとつの本当のことだぜ」
実感がわく。科学者はいろんな常識を覆すのだけれど、それは変わらない。
不死身のエレキマン「大人になったらなりたかったものに成れなかったんなら大人の振りすんな」感動。もうすごい。
ブカブカブーツ　ハイロウズらしい歌。低い声を珍しくだしててコーラスが気持ちいい。
真夜中レーザーガン　いいリズムにのって、一気に飛んで来そうな感じ。

つまりは全部よすぎて書き込めないので割愛しますが。
良すぎてもっと聞きたい！飽きるまでは５にしません。５というのは完成だから。

ブルハも好きだが、ハイロウズはハイロウズで好きだ。「コインランドリー」、「不死身のエレキマン」、「千年メダル」のように彼等らしい曲は聴いていて心地イイ。ダウンタウンの松っちゃんが描いたロブスターもアルバムに合っていて凄くイイ。「ブカブカブーツ」とか、「ゲロ」とか、はっきりいって私には理解できない曲が収録されているが、それはそれでOK。なぜなら、そういう理解不能な曲ほど後から聴きたくなるからである。ハイロウズの曲は、そういった一種の中毒性を持っているのだ。それこそ彼等の魅力だ。

ハイロウズを好きなことに理由なんかない。ただ、好きだ。でも、誰にでも受け入れられる音楽ではないので、彼等を嫌う事にも理由は要らない。そんな自由さ、気ままさが格好イイ。

これだけハイロウズを誉めちぎっているのに星は3つ。理由は最高とか満点というのは、個人的に彼等に似合わないと思うから。ただ、それだけ。
