久々に“ライジング・フォース”名義を復活させてネオ・クラシカル様式ヘヴィ・メタル元祖の美意識をアピールする作風に回帰した前作から約1年、相変わらず創作意欲旺盛なうえになぜかやたら攻撃モードを高めている印象が強いイングヴェイの新作。今回も引き続きシンガーにマーク・ボールズを据えて暗く湿ったファンタジック・ワールドを描いていくのだが、その格調高いドラマ感覚とは裏腹にイングヴェイのギター・ワークは野蛮なまでに終始荒れ狂っている。壮大な構築力を誇示した前作とはうってかわって楽曲も比較的コンパクトに凝縮され、そのぶん息をも尽かせぬ躁状態のイメージが強い。この熱情の代償として耳に残るフレーズやメロディが不足気味なところが彼の諸作品を聴いてきた耳には困惑を引き起こしそうだが、終盤にラテン風リズムを用いたインスト曲なども配され、ムードの演出には実験が感じられる。前作と対で受け止めるべきところか。 (平野和祥) --- 2000年12月号

音質も評判もかなり悪いが、楽曲は決して悪くない。イングヴェイ特有の豪快なメタルが聴ける。いわゆる歌謡曲的な美旋律というのとは違うのかもしれないが、バラエティに富んだ良い曲が揃っている。とにかく、ライヴのように次から次へとヘヴィな曲が繰り出されて、その勢いに圧倒されそうになる。しかもバラードはイングヴェイの中でも1・2を争う出来ではないか。確かに曲を絞ればもっと良い作品になったかもしれないが、どの曲を？と考えると難しい。いつもは最悪なジャケットも今回は恰好良い。

前作では超人的なハイトーンを轟かせまくりで気合の入っていたマーク・ボールズであるが、今作では少々お仕事的な歌唱になっている点が残念。メンバーの力量は素晴らしいが、ジョン・マカルーソのドラムは録音状態のせいなのかパワーが感じられず私はちょっと・・・。
ARKのBURN THE SUNで聞けるドラムは素晴らしいんですがね。

ライブでこそ映える楽曲ばかりだと思うので、ぜひともマーク・ボールズを擁した編成でのライブ盤を出していただきたいところだ。
（映像で見ると厳しいと思うので・・・。）

プロダクションがうまくいってないのか、ちょっと音が悪い。なんだかデモテープみたい。。。とは、言い過ぎだけど。このアルバムでも、イングヴェイはギターだけでなくベースも弾いているのだが、そのせいかベースの音が大きいのがちょっと気になった。普通の人では弾けないようなプレイなのだが。

曲はイングヴェイ史上バラードでの最高の曲"miracle of life"を始めとしてなかなかいい曲が揃っており、前作「ALCHEMY」ほど脅威的ではないものの、マーク・ボールズのボーカルは相変わらず冴え渡っているので、オススメ出来るアルバムです。それだけに、音の悪さが残念。それさえ改善されていれば、名盤と呼べるのに。。。
