どうしても再読したくて、
古本屋で購入しました。
先見の明のヴェルヌに感服。
芝居でできるんじゃないかと。

1860年ころに、
ジュール・ヴェルヌが、
100年後のパリをイメージして書いた作品。
経済優先の資本主義の行く末を、
ペシミスティックに描いている。

“20世紀のパリ”では、
詩人、音楽家、そして兵士。
彼らには職はなく、
社会的に必要とされていない。
すべてが合理化され、
美的感覚も、変わってしまっている。

主人公は詩人にあこがれながらも、
職を転々とする。
“演劇専売公社”なるものまであり、
演劇まで、合理化されている。

彼は詩を書くことを決意し、
社会の落伍者となってしまう。
最後に残った1フランで、
パンを買うことを選ばずに、
好きな女性のために花を買う。
そして・・・。

全編に流れる、
ペシミスティックな薫り。
たまらなく、よい。
