沢村忠という稀に見る格闘家に関する誤解は多く、ここに真実の姿を明らかにしてくれたことは嬉しいことであると共に、事実はこれまでのメディア情報を超えてドラマチックで感動的である。
あまりに多くの試合をこなし、圧倒的な強さを示したことが逆におかしな誤解を生んだが、なぜそれができ、また、そうしなければならなかったかも詳細に示されている。
私はこれを読み、沢村という男に強烈に惚れ込んだ。技を極めようとする純粋さ、ストイックさは正に武道家そのものである。しかし、勝つだけでなく、迫力ある試合で観客を喜ばせ満足させる強い責任感・使命感を持ち、試合以外でも、あまりに生真面目な徹底したファン・サービスなどは、現在のプロ・スポーツ選手にも大いに参考になるかもしれない。
そして、彼がなぜそこまでやれたのか？その理由の１つを著者は沢村の引退式での本人の挨拶から推測するが、私にはこれが圧巻であり、心に深く残るものがあった。
格闘家ファンに限らず、お奨めしたい。
