塾選びの参考にしようと軽い気持ちで読み始めましたが、塾云々より、効果的な勉強法がいきなり第１章で示されており、これが脱帽もので役に立つ内容でした。言われたらもっともなことなのですが、これが自覚できていたら自分の学生生活ももっとましになっていただろうな、としみじみ。子どもには要領よく学ばせたいものと、実践を決意しました。２章以降は、塾に通わせる親への心構えと、塾をうまく使いましょう、という内容です。塾にお任せ、ではなく、塾と親の２人３脚の関係をうまく築いて、悔いなく過ごしたいものです。お子さんを塾に通わせている方、これから通わせようと思っている方全てに読んで欲しい本です。抽象論の多い受験や塾関係の本の中、また同じ著者の本を続けて何冊か読みましたが、もっとも具体的で役立つ中に入る１冊だと思います。

著者は学習塾を長年経営してきて自動経験が豊富な上に受験技術や塾利用法についての著書が多く、その多くが良質である。本書には、塾に通う親が、月謝を生かすか、無駄にするかのメルクマールが正確に示されていると思う。
塾に通う子供が実践すべき不可欠かつ最大のポイントとして著者が挙げるのは、まず「塾で習ったことは必ずその日に復習をすること」次に「間違った問題を書き出して解き直す間違いノートを作ること」の２点である。これは実は、実際にこつこつと実行している生徒は非常に少ない。それで成績が上がらないと嘆くのだが、きちんと実行していけば実は簡単に成績は上がるという。真理である。
その他にも、塾のタイプ別、子供のタイプ別の注意点もきめ細かい。大変参考になる。
