茂木健一郎(もぎ・けんいちろう)
1962年東京生まれ。脳科学者。ソニーコンピュータサイエンス研究所シニアリサーチャー。著書に『脳を活かす勉強法』(PHP)、『ひらめき脳』(新潮新書)など多数。2005年、『脳と仮想』(新潮社)で第4回小林秀雄賞を受賞。

　甲野氏は、武術家を越えて深い思想をもつ人だということがすぐに分かりました。また、茂木氏も脳科学者という立場をこえて、人間や生命をありのままに見ようと熱く対談しています。
　科学や論理的思考が、ひとつの信仰のようになっている現代。でも、科学や論理があるまえから、厳然と生命や人は存在する。そのなかで起こる様々なできごと。
　そんなテーマに、冒頭から引き込まれる、熱を感じる対話です。

最初は甲野氏の科学批判からはじまり、少し話がかみ合ってないのかなと感じもしたが、後半になるに従って議論が深まり、現代文明の問題点を克服するための身体性の重要性について示唆に富む対談になっている。
　いくらでも代替可能なデジタル情報をベースとした現代文明は、かけがえのない「個人」という存在を脅かしている。そのような現代文明に対して、代替不可能でそのままデジタル情報に変えて伝えることのできない生身の人間が持つ身体性が対抗軸としていかに重要か。それを甲野氏は武術家の視点から、茂木氏は科学者の視点から明らかにしていく。
ネットサーフィンしてメールしてipodで音楽聞くばっかりしてないで、直接色んな人に会って、自分で料理作ったり、野山に入ってみたり、自分の身体で感じることが絶対必要なのだ。
誰もが持っている脳と身体の潜在力に気付き、自由になるために。

甲野師範の対談本を読むと、稽古会で技の効きを試されている姿を思い浮かべてしまう。

甲野師範の近年の他の対談に比べると、異なる領域の人に対して間合いを計りつつ丁寧に踏み込んでいる感があっておもしろい。その結果、茂木さんがついつい引き込まれて「ほんとうのこと」をちらっと見せる瞬間がある。茂木さんのふわーっとした語り口が苦手で、今ひとつつかみ所がなかったのだが、この本で茂木さんのコアをちょっとだけ見た気がした。

ただ、この対談の成果としてはいまひとつ。
未知の領域の手前に立ちふさがる壁（バカの壁ではない）の前まで行って、２人でわからんねえとうなずきあって帰ってきたと言う程度。茂木さんは甲野師範の身体感覚をつかみきることはできず、甲野師範は茂木さんの核心の問いを理解することができないままお開きを迎えたという感があり、それで星４つ。
甲野師範が「脳の身体運動」のような概念について、誤解を恐れずに踏み込んで言及されると相当におもしろかったのではないかと思う。
（大変わかりにくいレビューになってしまいました。反省。。）
