2039年。火星を訪れた探査チームは異星文明の遺跡を発見するが、突如飛来した生命体・タルシアンの手により全滅させられてしまう。その後、地球文明は遺跡から発見されたテクノロジーにより飛躍的に発達。タルシアンの追跡・調査を目的に国連宇宙軍も組織される。中学生のノボルとミカコは、同じ部活に励む仲の良いクラスメイトであったが、3年生の夏にミカコが国連軍選抜メンバーに抜擢され、二人は離ればなれとなってしまう。携帯電話のメールで連絡を取り合う二人だったが、宇宙船が地球を離れるにつれ、その時間のズレは決定的なものへとなっていく…。映像では語られなかったタルシアン侵攻の謎が今明らかに。

著者略歴 (「BOOK著者紹介情報」より)

大場 惑
1955年生まれ・千葉県在住・鹿児島県出身。大学卒業後大手ゲーム会社に入社。開発部に配属になり、アーケード・ゲームのプログラム開発に従事しながらSF同人サークル「宇宙塵」に入会。1984年「宇宙塵」に掲載された作品「コンタクト・ゲーム」が「SFアドベンチャー」に転載となり商業誌デビューを飾る。その後も会社勤めと平行に「SFアドベンチャー」「SFマガジン」「ログイン」等の雑誌に短編を発表。1986年退社し専業作家生活へ。1989年日本SF作家クラブ入会。これまでに長編10本、短編集3本、数多くのTV・ゲーム等のノベル化を手がける

新海 誠
1973年生まれ・埼玉県在住・長野県出身。時代を代表する映像クリエーター。2002年発表の『ほしのこえ』では監督・脚本・演出・作画・美術・編集すべてを一人で行い、その完成度はこれまでの自主制作の枠を完全に超越。口コミで人気が広がり、各界より注目をあつめ、DVD初版が即日完売。第1回「新世紀東京国際アニメフェア21」公募部門にて優秀賞受賞。また、過去の自主制作作品はドイツ、アメリカ、韓国、イタリアと国外でも上映され注目をあびる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

　アニメを見て抱いた疑問が解けます。
　
　なぜ、美加子は中学校の制服を着て戦うのか。
　なぜ、２１世紀半ばなのに、時が止まったかのような風景なのか。
　なぜ、タルシアンと戦うのか。

　その答えがあります。

アニメ版はあえて詳しい設定や結末を描かないことで、余韻を残し儚さや切なさ、懐かしさを上手く表現していたのに対し、小説版はこれを補完する形で詳しい世界観や設定を知ることができて非常に読み応えのある作品でした。ただ詳しく描いたことで、アニメ版のテンポの良さやラストの儚さや切なさが少々薄れてしまった感じがしました。しかし、アニメ版を見て何か心に残るものがあった人、また見ていない人も本格的なＳＦ的世界観で展開される淡い恋物語として十分に楽しむことができる作品です。

DVDアニメ「ほしのこえ」は、
映像としては素晴らしいものの、25分という枠に収める為でしょうか、
扱っているストーリー規模からすると、
必要最低限の場面すら省かれているのが不満だったのですが、
そんなアニメ版のストーリーを補完するのがこの小説。

艦隊でのミカコ、ノボルの高校生活といった描写が加わっているだけでなく、

謎の存在でしかなかったタルシアンの目的や
事故の真相についても言及されているほか、
何より、アニメ版ラストシーンのその後が描かれており、
きちんと完結しているのもポイント高いです。

アニメ版との相違点や、本作には似合わない
SF色が強く胡散臭い追加設定もありますが、
アニメ版の内容を語るなら、本来このくらいの情報量は必要だと思いますし、この小説版を読むと、アニメ版はダイジェスト版に思えてきます。

アニメ版を見た方にとっては必携ではないでしょうか。
