Rubyすら知らない、私がRailsのコード(oVirt)を読む際に参考図書として利用しました。
いろんなキーワードが出てきて、？？？の状態だったのですが、8割方の用語は、この本に丁寧に説明されていました。そのほかは検索して、当たりをつけて読むことが出来ました。多分、検索エンジンだけの調査より、数倍の速度でコードが読めるようになったと思います。また、国際化等の話もいろいろ書いてあり大変役に立ちました。
あえて言えば、もう少し、索引を充実して欲しいこと、URLのルーティングなどWebサーバのさまざまな設定が含まれているconfig以下のディレクトリの説明を体系的にして欲しいことなどがあります。(なので、星1つ減らしました。)
いずれにせよ、このぐらいの分量が無いと、Railsのコードは読めません。しかも、丁寧に説明されていることから、この本は、Railsのコードをを読む際には必読の本といえるでしょう。

非常に平易に記述されています。

情報量としては、同じバージョン(Rails2.0.2)を扱っている
「Railsレシピブック 183の技」より劣るが、
文章のわかりやすさは、こちらのほうが数段上。

特に、実際の開発を通して培ったと思われる、
「設計や活用のコツ」が
随所に記述されていて、とても参考になった。

清水さんの本に続いて本書を購入した。
著者たちがRubyとRubyOnRailsの思想を理解し、オブジェクト指向にのっとって、実際の開発の場面で、必要になることを解説している。
しかし、逆引きなので、まだRubyOnRailsの全体像がよくつかめていない私にとっては、一挙に進めない部分がある。
清水さんの本は非常によいが、こちらは本当に入門書なので、やはりRubyOnRailsの全体像を掴むのは無理である。
そこで、この二つに加えて、全体像を説明したような書籍があれば、体系が完結するのだが、しかし、それは「自分で掴みなさい」ということなのだろう。
こちらも推薦である。
