日本ジャック・ロンドン協会の会長を務め、個人訳全集まで出してしまう程ロンドンに入れ込んだ著者が、とにかくロンドンはどれだけスゴいか、と云うことを一般向けに無邪気に滔々と捲し立てた本。ロンドンの生涯や主要著作、現代に通じるそのテーマ、日本との関わり、ロンドン所縁の観光地案内等、短くズラズラッと並べているのだが、タイトルからも明らかな様に、どうもファンの贔屓目で過大評価してしまっているのでは、と思わないでもない。下手をすると、ロンドンそのものより、著者がどれだけロンドンを崇拝しているか、と云う印象しか読後に残らないかも知れない。屡々結論が先行して論旨が飛躍するので、冷静な評価を求める読者にはお薦めしない。ロンドンの熱狂的な一ファンで結構、と云う読者向け。文章が半分、写真や挿絵が半分と、ビジュアル的に割と退屈しない作りになっているので、パラパラと流してみるだけでも結構退屈しない。
