1958年東京都生まれ。東京都立大学理学部物理学科卒。科学技術計算ソフトウェア会社の経営者兼エンジニア。展開図を用いた設計的折り紙創作のパイオニア。折り紙の数学・科学・歴史・民俗等に関する研究者。折鶴に関するグッズのコレクター。日本折紙学会評議員長。1986年国際交流基金ブラジル派遣。1994年折り紙の科学国際会議運営委員(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

「悪魔」の折り図がのっている、というのが些細なことに思えるほど充実した内容です。

掲載されている作品には、その作品を折る際の「テーマ」が設定されています。
そのテーマを意識しながら、一つ一つの作品を折っていくと、折り図の見方から、設計理論まで学ぶことができます。

気軽に折り紙を楽しみたい、というだけの方にはお勧めしません。
しかし、ステップアップを目指そうという方、あるいは最近の折り紙理論を概観しようという方は、是非一読（もちろん折りながら）されることをお勧めします。

とは言うものの、前川さんの作品自体も、非常に魅力的です。
（個人的には、こだわり＆くすぐりがあるので、大好きです）

『ビバ!折り紙』も相当衝撃的でしたが、この本はそれ以上です。
子供達にせがまれて「ドラゴン(中級)」を折りましたが、所要時間１時間というところでしょうか。入門編以外の作品はすべて30cmサイズの折り紙で折ることをお勧めします(できれば薄い和紙)。
十二支も網羅されていて(若干苦しいのも有るけど)、早速ねずみを折って友人にプレゼント。子供に折らせて年賀状に貼ろうか、何てことも思案中。
また絶版になる前に、予備の本をもう1冊買っとこうかしら(笑)。

『ビバ！おりがみ』の衝撃から四半世紀、ついに前川淳の新しい折り紙作品集が出版された。
綾辻行人の小説に登場する事でも知られている、あの高名な「悪魔」の折り手順を、作者自身の解説で収録した本が！
「飛ぶカブトムシ」の改訂版や、ミウラ折りを用いて尾羽を展開させる「孔雀」など、これぞ前川折り紙と言うべき作品の連打！
『ビバ！おりがみ』の復刊が難しいとされる今日、本書が折り紙ファンの（やや大げさに言えば）“新約聖書”となることだろう。
