舞台となる20世紀初頭のアメリカの雰囲気はこんな感じだったのかと思わせる語り口が楽しめます。また、物語の本筋以外のところにちりばめられたその時代のエピソードや実在の人物の登場シーンの遊び心や、探偵役のフーディーニとドイルの間にある心霊主義を巡る対立が物語にもたらす緊張感など優れた点も多いと思います。
しかし、思わせぶりなストーリーの割に結果的に何のためだったのか良く分からない登場人物や場面が多く、散漫な物語になっているのが残念です。
