地底の中には海があったり、その海の中には恐竜が住んでいたり

海から陸地に上れば巨人がいたりとハラハラドキドキする物語です。

英語のタイトルはヴィジャートウ・センターオブ・ジ・アースといいます。

ディズニーシーのアトラクションの元ネタになったお話しでもあります。

しかしこの物語には地底装甲車は登場しません。

最初に読んだタイトルなので、すごい衝撃を受けた。何てすごい事を考えるのだろうと、読んでて驚かされた。本作は、映画も原作もどちらもみたが、どっちも文句の付けようのない大傑作だと思う。多少、キャスティングが、違うところもあったが、まったく気にならなかった。子供時代に見て、マジで地底旅行に行けたらいいなと一時期本気で考えた時があった。俺が読んだ小説の中でも、ベスト３に入る作品だ。今でも、たまに読み返す事がある。映画と比べるのも、結構面白い。何度読み返しても、飽きないな。良い作品だよ。

SF好きの私は、こういった巧みな話を読むと全部本気にしてしまう癖があるので困るのだが、どこまでが本当で、どこまでが想像の世界なのやら、その境目もわからないほど。

これが書かれたのは1865年。昔の人のほうが、想像力は豊かだったに違いない。もしかしたらこんな世界が本当にあるかもしれないと思ってしまうくらいに素晴らしい想像力だ。
