ポオの初期の頃の作品です。
「息の喪失」や「使い切った男」などユーモラスな作品が目を惹きます。また，「アッシャー家の崩壊」や「ウィリアム・ウィルソン」など有名どころも入っていますが…
ポオを初めて読むという方にはあまりオススメしないかもです。

ポオ一流の皮肉とユーモアを駆使したお話が多いだけに，読み慣れないとわかりにくい。ポオを初めて読むという方には，同じ全集の第3巻をオススメします。それで，ポオにハマったら，こっちに帰ってきてください。

僕のお気に入りは，「ベレニス」。

「狂気」を扱った小説家においてポオほど完璧な世界観を構築しえた小説家は数少ない。勿論焼き増しのような作品は数多く存在する。読めば読むほど圧倒的な筆力が強力な魔力となって読み手を引き込んでいく感じがする。「モルグ街の殺人」といえばミステリーファンなら一度は耳にしたことがあるかもしれない。推理小説の原点を紐解いてじっくり読み込み、その独特の世界に浸るのも悪くない時間のすごし方でしょう。
