山下 清
1922‐1971。貼絵画家。養護施設八幡学園で貼絵を習い、急速に才能をのばす。点描派風の作品は、卓抜な描写力を示し、式場隆三郎、戸川行男らの世話で世に紹介され、画壇や識者を驚かせた。1940年、学園をとびだした後、放浪・帰園をくりかえし、“日本のゴッホ”“裸の大将”と呼ばれた(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

「はだかの大将」で知られている画家・山下清が放浪を止めて
から書いた紀行文。

小学生のような文体で表現された彼の思考が絶妙に面白い。

今で言う差別語も頻出して、本書に素朴で無垢で骨太い印象を
与えている。これは現代の文章から失われたものである。

多数の貼り絵、点描画、マジックインキによる素描が載ってい
て本書をさらに楽しいものにしている

　　彼の日記や旅行記はすべて他人からの強制で書いたもの。無名時代から功名心ゼロ、出世欲ゼロ、性欲ゼロ、金銭欲ゼロ、ただ旅を愛し、他人の束縛から逃れ、自由の身であればそれだけで満足する男。宿泊は旅先の駅のベンチ（無料ゆえ）、3度のメシはもらえるまで何軒でも他人の家を訪ねる。そして精薄で点描画の天才。こういう男が残した、ごまかしのない、まじめで、平易で、珍無類の記述。　　
　　本書は彼の絵が有名になった後に、行った国内旅行の自由日記風の珍道中記。費用はスポンサーもち、そのかわり旅日記をつける約束で実兄と他人との同道の旅に出たのである。時は昭和30年代半ば。編集されてはいるが原著の面影は十分。旅のスケッチ画も多数挿入されている。カバー表紙の絵は浅草カジノ座のストリップ嬢で、本文126ページのものと同じ。
　　著者の人生哲学は一生不変だったようだ。それは、企業戦士として現役で活躍中の方々には無縁のものだが、他方で、すべて生けとし生けるものの本能を揺さぶる癒しのふるさとをも期せずして提供する。人の意見や講演など今更聞きたくない、などと感じておられるような退職後の方々にも抵抗感なく読めるような本である。巻末に付された「山下清年譜」と「解説」はよい参考資料。
　　（参考）同著者による「ヨーロッパぶらりぶらり」はまた別の味わい。「裸の大将放浪記」4巻、ノーベル書房、1979(絶版)は著者が有名になる前の人生記。アンダートーンは著者の本すべてに共通している。

山下清氏は、考え方や視点が違うだけ。
その考え方や視点が興味深く、自分がいかに何かに縛り付けられて生きているかを痛感します。
ヨーロッパ編もありますが、まずは日本編からお読みになったほうが良いかと思います。
ヨーロッパへ行く前に、準備体操的に書いた手記です。
独特の言い回しがあり、読みづらい部分もあるかもしれませんが、あまり細かいことは気にしないで読むのが、この本の読み方です。
読後には、山下清氏（あえて画伯とは言いません）が、いかに聡明、純粋、好奇心旺盛、素直であるかがよくわかります。
生きて行く上で、原点に立ち返るような感覚でした。
もちろん、絵もたくさんついているので、楽しみながら読んでみてください。
