著者はその昔、三宅裕司がTV番組で紹介した“G感性によるパーソナリティ分析手法”を開発した優れたマーケッターである。今回は時間割という非常にわかりやすいものさしを用いて、“できる子”を育てられた家庭の特徴を浮き彫りにし、“できる子”を育てたい親がこぞって真似たくなるであろうモデルを提示することに成功した。
自発的に勉強する子にするためには、環境と習慣が最も大切。幼児のころ身につけた習慣は学習においても「三つ子の魂百までも」その子の行動を左右する。良い習慣を身につけるためには「この親にしてこの子あり」、親自身が範を示すことが必要である。同時に、子どもはいともたやすく「朱に交われば赤くなる」。良い環境を与えてあげられれば、勉強するのが当たり前の意識付けが出来あがり、机に向かう初動エネルギーを最小限に抑えられるというもの。ここまで揃えれば「門前の小僧習わぬ経を読む」こととなり、自他共に勉強が出来る子のセルフイメージが確立する。「水を得た魚のよう」に学力を伸ばし続けているわが子を思い描いてほくそ笑んでしまった。
この本の読者はきっと、「孟母三遷」を厭うことなく環境を与え、習慣づけの手助けをするに違いない。子供から見れば「父の恩は山よりも高く母の恩は海よりも深し」である。とはいえ現実は「親の心子知らず」であり、「親孝行したいときには親はなし」になりがちではあるが・・・
