ビジョン５４という言葉の意味するところは「全ホールでバーディーをとる」だ。
この本は、その言葉をアイコンとして、２２章にわたる主にゴルフに対する考え方、一部、練習の方法の本である。
そして、読み進むうちに、それがまさに哲学であることに気がつく。 それと、意識、無意識にかかわらず、この本の思想に影響されたGOLF本が多いことにも気がつくと思う。

ちなみに日本語版の序文は、宮里藍さんが書いている。彼女もこの本と、アニカソレンスタムに強い影響を受けた一人だ。 最後の「楽しみましょう」というメッセージも、彼女からなればこそ、心に響く。

ゴルフの上達だけではなく、人生に対する哲学書、物事に対するアプローチの方法論としても素晴らしい本だと思う。間違いなく近いうちに再読するし、持っておき続ける本だ。
難解なところは何もないのに、深い内容の本だ。こういった本はなかなか書けない。著者がいかに深くゴルフというスポーツの本質を考え続けているのか、よくわかる。

ただし、ゴルフをしない人には、何を言っているかまったくわからない本だと思うので、あくまでゴルフをやる人に限定して強く勧める。

「ビジョン54」はゴルフをする人なら、今や常識。技術的なことを学ぶより、心の安定を得ましょう。プロだってミスショットします。優勝争いの極限の中で、池越えでグリーンを狙う時にミスショットした選手の場面をスロービデオで見せるより、そのショットの前に、選ぶクラブを迷った選手の心理をビデオで放映すべである。本当の原因は、決断がつかないままショットしたことにあったのだ。こういったエピソードを交えて、本文が続きます。練習場ではナイスショットがでるのに、ラウンドでは経験が活かせない、このようなプレーヤーに最適の本です。

「ビジョン５４」それはすべてのホールでバーディをとること。意味するところは、自分で自分にカベを設けるのではなく、潜在能力を最大限に引き出そうという思考法で、かのアニカ・ソレンスタムもスウェーデンのナショナルチームで学んだメソッドなのです。
具体的にはこんな感じです…。
・ショットするエリアを「思考ボックス」と「実行ボックス」に分けて、それぞれのボックス内でそれぞれに集中すること。
・（主にミスショットしたときの）怒りをコントロールし、プレッシャーを味方にすること。
・プレショットルーティンだけでなく（特にいいショットをしたときの）ポストショットルーティンを意識すること。
などなど…。
コースでも練習場でも１打１打を大切に打とう、という気持ちになりました。ゴルフは気持ち、ということを改めて分からせてくれる本です。
