秋田市で生まれ東京で育つ。武蔵野美術大学卒業後、三菱重工業に入社。13年半のOL生活を経て、1988年、脚本家としてデビュー。ドラマの他に小説、エッセイなど多方面で活躍している。文化庁芸術作品賞、日本作詞大賞などを受賞。現在、女性初の横綱審議委員を務めている(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

久しぶりに充実感を感じるエッセイーを読んだ。著者の本質をついた発言は時々新聞などで拝見し好感を持つことが多かったが、このエッセーはアタリだ。結婚適齢期をチョイ過ぎ女性の微妙なこころを素晴らしく描いているが、それまでも肥やしにしてたくみに人生を切り開いていく著者の生き方がとても心地よい。人生捨てたものじゃないよという言葉が聞こえてくる感じだ。

これは名エッセイ。
内舘牧子といえば、そのやや特異な風貌（失礼）と、朝青龍問題に代表される横綱審議委員会での舌鋒鋭さが有名であるが、優秀な脚本家であるとともに、優れたエッセイストであることを再確認した。

「アイスキャンデー」や「パン」に代表されるような、いわゆる「有識者の社会常識」に真っ向から反論する威勢の良さは、横審委員そのままであるが、同時にそこには、男社会とそこに生きるものたちを完全には否定しない、繊細かつ穏やかな視線も併せ持つ。

「好きだと思った。こういう食べ方を、そしてこういう食べ方をする男たちを、私は本当に好きだと思った（カレーライス）」
こんな一文が、個人的にはたまらなく好き。
「茄子」や「ビール」「鰻」なんかも良いな。

藤原正彦の解説もまた、素晴らしい。

いい塩梅に仕上がった、なかなか芳醇なエッセイ。

カッコをつけず、ざっくばらんでしたたかで、
パンチもあれば、クスリと笑わせる愛嬌もあって、
ウッカリ油断していると、人間臭さにズキーンと胸を打たれたりする。

面倒臭いことをゴチャゴチャ書かないキレのある明白な文章で、
気軽に読みはじめることができるけど、
ページのアチコチにドボン！と落ちる深みがあって、
テキトーに読み終えることを許さない。

バッグに携帯していると、手持ち無沙汰なスキマ時間が、
貴重でワクワクする時間に変わる。
